Since the first Koi Master Class back in 2000 this unique tour has developed into more than just a trip of learning about koi from the master breeders in Niigata but a trip learning about the very heart of Japanese culture which makes us understand more about the history and development of Nishikigoi itself.

Koi Master Class has developed out of 27 years of Martin Symonds bringing trade customers and hobbyists to Japan. Normal buying trips during the spring and autumn are fantastic to do, but time and business prevails not always allowing enough time to take everything in.
So started Koi Master Class a dedicated week for koi enthusiasts to learn about koi appreciation from the Master themselves here in Niigata and get a closer look at Japanese culture itself.
In association with Japanese koi breeders and top Japanese hobbyists this unique trip offers the following.
Classes held by top breeders at their farms, attend and learn about Koi Appreciation in the very Homeland of Nishikigoi.
Including Tategoi selection and all aspects of koi farming.
Breeders include Aoki, Hosokai, Miyatora, Shinoda, Kasuto Igarashi, Kaneko, and Sakai. More informal class will be held at other breeders. Time permitting you will visit over 20 breeders in the area.

Meet Japanese hobbyists and visit their ponds and koi collections
Learn about the steps the breeders are taking on Koi health issues in Niigata by Mr. Koike, Niigata’s leading fish veterinarian.
Visit the Inland Water Research Station where all fish testing is done.
